Sunsets, super views, and stargazing

Evening sun on Illgill Head
Wow, what a summer that's been!! Our busiest to date. Big thanks to everyone who has been involved, much appreciated.

This weekend saw lots more lovely folk out with us. Starting on Friday with a couple from near Birmingham. Then again on Saturday morning a group of 10 guys also from Birmingham, all keen to get back in time for the footie so we blasted up via Mickledore. No views due to thick mist most of the way. But top class banter and loads of smiles made the day ace.

I had some down-time in Wasdale before the evening shift, helping a 3 peaks group. I remember the e-mail saying 'we're quite athletic'. A sub 3 hour time (yes that's up and down) confirmed this, I'd say very athletic and very much tuned into the mountains. Mostly stops weren't for food, water, or rests, they were solely to appreciate the outstanding landscape and to stargaze.

After a much needed rest yesterday, I was back out on Scafell Pike again today, this time with a couple from Yorkshire. A steady pace saw us to the top of Mickledore and onto the summit the quiet way. Fairly minging weather high up, but it all adds to the atmosphere and day. Once back below Lingmell Col the view re-appeared and I eyes were filled with the beauty of Wasdale once more. Yewbarrow and Illgill Head framing Wastwater and occasionally glimpses of sun now teasing us, just bliss.

The rest of the week will be spent on other Lakeland mountains and in nearby valleys. Guided walks, canyoning, and hopefully some personal rock climbing and road cycling to keep the fitness up.

Thanks for reading

Mark
