Rain, what rain?!

Hollowstones with Wastwater in the distance

It was no secret, the forecast for this weekend made rather dire reading! Torrential rain and strong winds were the order of the day, oh dear.
Our planned route had been from Borrowdale and to follow the Corridor Route. However, taking the weather into account, we changed this to Wasdale as it is a much shorter route. The drive over from Ambleside this morning was through thick cloud and heavy rain. The amount of water running off the mountains was biblical. However, the forecasters had started to give us hope of a drier day, and guess what, they were right, yippee 🙂

Soon our jackets were off, in fact they were never needed as it didn't rain at all. As we gained height we nearer the swirling mist, soon our views would be more restricted. Thankfully the cloud seemed to inch higher and higher, allowing us to enjoy the splendid views for far longer than expected.

From Lingmell Col upwards the cloud took control, but every now and then it would tease us with a view before closing up once more. It was breezy on the summit but still warm enough to stop for some lunch and take a few photos. As we descended the view soon opened up again, even more so this time, allowing us to see as far afield as Blencathra, The Isle of Man, and even Scotland.

The drive home even needed sunglasses - what a great day 🙂
Big thanks for Ken, Ann, Simon, and Matthew for joining us today.
